    Otoplasty (Ear Plastic)

The  otoplasty (ear plastic) is the procedure that corrects protruding ears. The “thrown” ears are a source of teasing for everyone but especially for children. Although it is good to restore the normal shape of the ears by the age of 5-6 years when kindergarten begins to avoid teasing, any age is suitable for this operation.

    The operation briefly

The  otoplasty (plastic ear) , becomes a small incision behind the ear, usually under local anesthesia. Children under 12 years of age need general anesthesia. After we change the shape of the cartilage, the ear is held in its new position with special stitches. Gauze and cotton hold and protect the shape of the ears, from sleep injuries, for 5-7 days. For another two weeks and only in sleep, it is required to use a hair ribbon for women and a hat for men.

    Otoplasty (Ear Plastic)Sections

topoplasty (ear plastic surgery) is done with an incision behind the ear, which is not visible and this allows even men with short hair to perform such an operation, without an obvious sign. The incisions behind the ear usually close very well and do not cause problems. In rare cases, which can cause hypertrophic scars, there is special treatment to normalize.

    Drugs and smoking

The otoplasty (ear plastic)  is surgery and like all surgeries, medical history will be discussed beforehand.

It is always better if you do not smoke. But if you are a smoker, try to quit smoking for 4 weeks before and 4 weeks after surgery. If you can not quit smoking, you will definitely be able to reduce the number of cigarettes you smoke per day to 5, which will significantly reduce the chances of complications (bruises, bruises, swelling).

Do not take herbal medicines for about 10 days before surgery or for 3 days after. Also avoid aspirin (salospir), 7-10 days preoperatively, and anti-inflammatory, 3-4 days preoperatively.

    Complications

Below are the most common but there are others that are mentioned in the international literature.

Suture reversal : many weeks or even months after surgery. We simply remove the sutures that emerge from the skin.

Perichondritis infection : treated with antibiotics.

Hematoma: Immediate complication. It causes severe pain and needs urgent treatment.

Necrosis of the skin / cartilage : due to hematoma.

Deformed scars – keloids : due to skin reaction.

Shape deformity : usually in the upper third (where the glasses rest). It is corrected with a small reoperation.
